2009-10 LECTURE SERIES Lee Bey The Politics of Architecture and Although not trained as an architect, Lee Bey has been one of the most influential voices shaping Chicago’s built environment. From 2001 to 2004, Bey served as the deputy chief of staff for planning and design for Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. In that role, he helped shape local policy on urban development, lakefront protection, park construction, sustainable design and architectural preservation. Before joining the mayor’s office in 2001, Bey was an award-winning architecture critic for the Chicago Sun-Times. He is now director of media and governmental affairs at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), one of the world’s largest architectural firms. |
