GREEN FOOD, GREEN DESIGN, AND GREEN TIES! Archeworks to Honor Bruce Mau at Green Benefit

CHICAGO, May 11 – Archeworks, Chicago’s alternative design school, will offer a sustainable evening at its biennial benefit honoring internationally renowned designer Bruce Mau on Friday, May 18, 2007 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Warehouse at 1747 West Hubbard Street in Chicago.

The theme for the benefit and auction, “Green is the New Black” was inspired by Archeworks’s 13-year history of exploring sustainable design issues and the emergence of eco-issues into the mainstream from building to food to fashion.  Just this year, Archeworks students partnered with the Museum of Science and Industry to develop a plan to help make the museum a zero-waste institution through exhibits and systemic changes by the year 2010.

Archeworks’s Director, architect Stanley Tigerman explains, “Archeworks, within the architecture and design community, has long championed that green design is good design.  We want the Archeworks Green Benefit to bring awareness of green design to the next level and show how it can be fun and fashionable.  That is why it is so fitting to honor Bruce Mau and his work—he has been so successful in bringing green design to a mainstream audience.”

Bruce Mau’s work was recently featured in an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, “Massive Change: The Future of Global Design.” The exhibition immerses visitors in a series of powerful encounters with the latest innovations in the fields of urban design, transportation, information design, revolutionary material and more.

The event will feature a live auction with one-of-a-kind architectural drawings by famous architects and designers including Helmut Jahn, Richard Meier, Frank Gehry, Michael Graves and others.  Archeworks Green Benefit patrons will dine on a menu created by Jewell Events Catering featuring the best of local and regional sustainable farms including micro-greens and artisanal cheeses and featuring pure grass-fed beef from Tallgrass Beef Company

HermanMiller is the Platinum Sponsor and Haworth is the Silver Sponsor for the event.  Other sponsors include Earth Friendly Products, Enjoy: An Urban General Store, Glee Gum, Ineeka 100% Organic Whole Leaf Tea, Jewell Events Catering, Eva and Lynn Maddox, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tallgrass Beef, and Tigerman McCurry Architects.

Limited tickets ($300) and sponsorship packages are still available.  View the event information page or contact Stephanie Edwards at 312.867.7254X11 for more information.  Proceeds from the event go to Archeworks’s Community Design Projects

Archeworks is an alternative design school where students work in multidisciplinary teams with nonprofit partners to create design solutions for social concerns related to children, the elderly, people with disabilities and other under-served communities in Chicago and beyond. Architect Stanley Tigerman, FAIA and designer Eva L. Maddox, Assoc. AIA, FIIDA, LEED AP, founded Archeworks in 1993.
