Archeworks Cofounders will ‘Pass the Baton’ at Symposium in January Chicago, IL, December 13, 2007 – Archeworks co-founders and directors, architect Stanley Tigerman and designer Eva Maddox, will officially introduce the two new co-directors of Archeworks at a symposium appropriately focused on new design leadership in the Chicago area. The symposium will take place on January 16, 2008 at 6 p.m at Archeworks. Maddox and Tigerman have led the school as Program Director and Director, respectively, since the school’s inception in 1993. They will continue to serve in these roles through the 2007-2008 school year and will remain on the organization’s Board of Trustees. The new co-directors will take the reins at Archeworks in May 2008. The symposium titled, Passing the Baton: The New Generation of Design Leadership in Chicago, will be held at Archeworks’s studios at 625 North Kingsbury Street. The symposium will feature a panel discussion among new leaders in the architecture and design world in Chicago, including curators, educators and foundation leaders. In addition to the new Archeworks co-directors , panelists include: Lee Bey, Executive Director of the Central Area Committee; Gregory Dreicer, Vice President of Exhibitions and Programs, the Chicago Architecture Foundation; Sarah Herda, Director of the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts; Hennie Reynders, Chair, Architecture, Interior Architecture and Designed Objects Department of The School of the Art Institute; Joseph Rosa, John H. Bryan Curator of Architecture and Design, The Art Institute of Chicago; Zoë Ryan, Neville Bryan Curator of Design, The Art Institute of Chicago; and Robert Somol, Director of the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Architecture. Ned Cramer, Editor of Architect Magazine and a member of the Archeworks’s Board of Trustees, will moderate the event. Symposium panelists will discuss the future of design in Chicago and their individual goals for the new design landscape in Chicago. They will also address Archeworks’s role as an innovative leader in alternative design education. Transcripts from the event will be published by Archeworks in the spring of 2008. Archeworks is an alternative design school in Chicago, co-founded by architect Stanley Tigerman and designer Eva Maddox in 1993, where students work in multidisciplinary teams with nonprofit partners to create design solutions for social concerns. Since 1994, Archeworks has paired with 75 community partners to complete community design projects touching neighborhoods and communities throughout the Chicago-area. There are more than 150 Archeworks alumni working in the design field, studying at top-ranking universities and making a positive impact on society thanks to their Archeworks training. This event is part of the Archeworks public lecture series, which seeks to shape intellectual, social and ethical debate, and is free and open to the public.
