Juvenile Detention Design -
Rehabilitation System for Personal Outreach
Development
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Archeworks students continued researching penal institutions to determine
if design can improve the lives of the detainees. In the efforts to improve
the overall design quality of criminal justice system facilities, Archeworks
students developed POD, Personal Outreach Development system, that motivates
detainees by responding to different levels of need fullfillment, complimented
by a rehabilitative spatial design. Through research, the team determined
that rehabilitation and post-detention support are medoicre in most existing
juvenile detention centers. The intent is to use the POD model as a catalyst
for change becoming a means for society to rethink its current social problems.
A full scale mockup of the rehabilitative spatial design POD was built
at Archeworks, which was the same square footage as a juvenile detention
cell.
