Illinois Main Street 2004-05 In partnership with Lt. Governor Patrick Quinn's Office's Illinois Main Street Program (a comprehensive community revitalization program designed to promote the historic preservation and economic development of the state's traditional business districts), Archeworks worked with the Waukegan Main Street Program to develop urban and cultural referencing initiatives that reflect and celebrate the cultural diversity and richness of Waukegan. Among many of the City's other initiatives, Waukegan would like to celebrate the unique diversity of their city so the residents of Waukegan can take ownership and pride in their downtown. For the project, Archeworks students joined forces with community groups to develop a campaign to ignite interest in good design on Genesee Street – the Main Street of Waukegan, Illinois – as a model for other towns in the Illinois Main Street program. The Archeworks team developed the Design Genesee program to empower to empower community members to see the tremendous possibilities along Genesee Street and in themselves. Through inspirational imagery, unifying neighborhood branding, sound professional advice and centralized resources, the Archeworks team left a multilingual legacy of design education, accessible through a website and community presentations – as well as a traveling video exhibit (upon obtaining funds.)
