office furniture industry
2004-05
Haworth, Inc. Exclusive
Archeworks students worked with Haworth, Inc. to develop creative ideas
for disposition furniture for re-use. Much as the Carpet and Rugs Institute
has established a second life of recycled carpet; we see the need to
apply big thinking and good design to avoid landfill contributions
of furniture. For the project, Archeworks students came up with re-use
ideas for disposed office furniture and conducted research in areas
of sustainability. Students developed and website displaying prototype
ideas and designed a guidebook for how to re-use office furniture.
The team exhibited their designs at two shows in Chicago focusing in
sustainability, including an exhibit that will run at the Chicago Cultural
Center May 28th – August 14
2005 titled Sustainable Furniture – Chicago Designers Respond.
