West Humboldt Park Cultural Referencing Design Initiative

1997-98

Archeworks teams spent three years in the working with the West Humboldt Park Neighborhood.

In Year #1, this project team worked to raise self-awareness with the community residents. Remodeling building facades, creative uses of vacant lots, and community-wide organizing events were just a few of the ideas proposed and implemented by the Team.

Continuing its positive involvement in the community, the Archeworks team from Year #2 worked with neighborhood children to design t-shirts, shopping bags, and upbeat postcards to promote the community. A permanent sculpture (created by Archeworks Team members and area schoolchildren) was installed at a neighborhood grammar school.

In year #3, the Archeworks team focused on development of community-wide initiatives to revitalize the neighborhood. The team also developed and produced an informational package to market West Humboldt Park in an effort to spur an influx of economic development.
