The Williams Family's Cluster Configuration
In the Southside neighborhood of Kenwood in Chicago, Tim Williams
and his extended family (including elderly mother Nora and teenage
son Jack), along with lifelong friend Andy Smith used Homeostasis
units to take advantage of several nearby empty lots. According
to Tim, age 55, using the adjoining lots in conjunction with his
existing unit allows his family and friends to live close together,
without necessarily having to live under a single roof.
Says Tim, "I'm a blue-collar guy and definitely not made of
money, so Homeostasis was the most affordable way we could
keep close ties with family, and of course Andy who is pretty much
family anyway, which is huge. With the money saved, we're even throwing
around the idea of combining our yards to create an interior landscaped
area. And, with Mom's unit in the backyard, Andy is able to lend
a hand when I'm at work."
Without Homeostasis this scenario would not be possible given
the rising costs of housing in the city. The future is flexible
for Tim as well, "The modularity is the best part of Homeostasis.
I hate to think about it, but after Mom is gone, Jack could move
to her unit while he studies at the University of Chicago, or I'll
rent it to another student if he decides to attend Harvard. Kid's
got more brains than he knows what to do with
" Like father,
like son.
