Technical Information
Each Homeostasis unit is composed of a series of steel panels
and frames. The modules are designed to integrate existing building
conditions, sustainable material research, and future technology.
The wall panels are built of sustainable materials connected to
the house in four-foot increments. Panels allow flexibility in both
the interior and exterior configurations. This design allows for
easy replacement or seasonal exchange of the panels, as well as
upgrades when material technology advances. Each modular unit is
composed of a series of panels and frames.
Homeostasis units can be combined in a number of ways to
facilitate and encourage social interaction between neighbors. Existing
single-family homes tend to segregate families and limit neighborhood
interaction. Housing units can be combined to form small communities
that share outdoor and/or living space. This new form of modular
housing can also be added to existing housing or existing communities
as infill, creating dynamic interaction between the old and the
new.
Highlights:
1. Base frame - Used to ship components to site, first module of
the housing unit.
2. Prefabricated panel -Available in varying forms; infill to the
framework to create solid walls.
3. Universal connector - Allows for interconnectivity of elements.
Can be used to attach both horizontal and vertical components. Also
serves as secondary support structure.
4. Scrims/screens - Allows for control of light and privacy. Can
be controlled by the individual user. Connected to the structure
from the universal connector.
5. Floor tiles - Contains ductwork for heating and conduit for
electrical.
6. Concrete piles - Allows framework to be secured on site.
7. Insulated roof - Sod allows for insulation and absorption of
excess moisture. Can be removed from first level and re-installed
at second level when required.
Options for sustainable materials will continue to grow as builders
and consumers realize the need for conserving our natural resources.
