The painful and tedious movements in a kitchen around the traditional ‘work triangle’ could eventually be history. We have developed a radically new concept for the kitchen where everything comes to you. The idea is based on the concept that you no longer have to move to get anything.

We started to identify problem areas for someone who is physically challenged in their household. After extensive research, numerous focus group meetings, and on site observations, the kitchen became the target of our focus.

We concentrated on the kitchen as it could be re-designed for a disabled person. We had started by dealing with the focusing on ideas of universal design mass customization and sustainability. Part of our concern with the idea of universal design came from the fact that universal design centers around the idea of one design solution to a problem. It was our goal to focus on having a certain amount of customizable elements to our design. One of our biggest challenges became how to meet each individual’s needs as everyone’s needs are so varied. In the end, we chose an approach that would allow for customization by each individual either in the process of ordering the product or by the inherent flexibility of the design itself.
