In the traditional model of the kitchen there has always been intense focus by architects and designers to minimize the movement in the work triangle by skillful spatial arrangements on each piece. Even that level of movement can be difficult for someone with limited mobility, particularly if they are in a wheelchair. The first step was to re-think the activity of working in the kitchen. It became necessary to collapse the kitchen work triangle in order to reduce the movement to zero. We call this design Kurumono, which means ‘everything comes to you’.

Our aim was to develop a concept kitchen that will fulfill the purpose of demonstrating specified functions while remaining a pure form in itself. In effect to build a theoretical truth that cannot be disputed.

This kitchen allows the user, able or disabled to benefit from universal design and mass customization. The work triangle has been eliminated enabling the user quick and easy access to the facilities with minimal effort.
