Edward Keegan
Architect, Author, & Critic

For many years, architect Edward Keegan has been an outspoken architectural critic and strong advocate for Chicago and its unique architectural legacy. As president of his own architectural firm, in his writings for such publications as Architecture, Architectural Record, Metropolis, Chicago, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, and Inland Architect and in his interviews on such programs as WBEZ’s “848,” NPR’s “Morning Edition,” WGN-AM’s “Extension 720,” and WTTW-TV’s “Chicago Tonight,” Keegan has lobbied for honoring, not dismissing, Chicago’s illustrious architectural heritage.
As a journalist and broadcaster, Mr. Keegan has interviewed some of the most noted architects of our time, including Pritzker Prize winners Frank Gehry, Rafael Moneo, Renzo Piano, and Robert Venturi. He has broadcast discussions with the directors of Washington’s National Gallery of Art, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, and Vienna’s Museumsquartier.

Mr. Keegan was President of the Chicago Architectural Club (CAC) for 1996-97 and served as a member of that organization’s Board of Directors for six years. He has chaired numerous committees for the CAC as well as the Chicago Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Under the auspices of these various organizations, he has organized and participated in many public discussions and symposia. Mr. Keegan received AIA Chicago’s 1997 Young Architect Award in recognition of his diverse achievements. In addition to his architectural work and media appearances, Mr. Keegan was Visiting Professor at Andrews University in Berrien Springs and is a member of the School of Architecture Advisory Board at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Mr. Keegan has served on numerous architectural juries and conducted classes to teach non-architects how to critically evaluate the built environment.
